We welcome SCCBA members' participation in all facets of the Association's activities and work, including our various committees.  If you are interested in being appointed to one of the following committees, please click "Request Membership" from within the group(s) you wish to join.  If you click on the Committee name, you can view a current roster of the Committee, meeting dates, agendas and minutes.

The Committees of the Santa Clara County Bar Association are responsible for:    
  1. The creation, coordination of continuing legal education programs or other special projects; or 
  2. Oversight for ongoing programs, projects or initiatives of the Association, including the study of issues affecting the Bar the practice of law, the administration of justice or the general welfare of the community.

Reviews the procedural aspects of California appellate practice for the purpose of recommending legislative changes, as well as changes in the California Rules of Court. Monitors legislative proposals and studies by special committees which may affect California appellate practice.

 Registered Members

Open to all Association members under 36 years of age or who have been admitted to practice for less than six years. The Barristers sponsor the "Barristers Leadership Program" each year as well as a host of activities integrating new lawyers in the general Bar Association.

Responds to proposed rule changes in Superior Court and provides input to Bench on issues affecting civil practice.

Directs the drafting and study of resolutions proposed to the Conference of Delegates and serves as the Association's delegation to the Annual Conference of Delegates.

Seeks to improve access by minority attorneys to opportunities within all areas of the legal profession and the Association and oversees the diversity initiatives approved by the Board of Trustees.

Works with the Federal Bench on improving procedures, judicial facilities and other matters. Considers federal practice and procedures including civil, criminal, appellate, and local rules.

Oversees arbitrations of attorney-client fee disputes. Develops policy, rules, procedures and forms using guidelines set by the State Bar. Appoints arbitrators and serves as a resource for arbitrators and parties.

Oversees the Association's financial procedures and budget. Chaired by the elected Treasurer.

The Judicial Assessment Committee (“JAC”) has been established with the mission of encouraging and strengthening the close historical working relationship between the SCCBA and the local state and federal judiciary. The purpose of the JAC is to oversee the solicitation of attorney feedback regarding the local federal and state courts, and to address attorneys’ concerns related to individual judges.

Responds to the Governor's requests to evaluate individuals under consideration for judicial appointment. A separate application must be submitted for this Committee and there is a separate deadline for submission of the application each year. An application will be emailed to you if you list Judiciary as a committee choice.

Coordinates activities and programs designed to educate the public about the law and the justice system. Its primary responsibility is the annual High School Mock Trial Competition.

Oversees and develops policy and procedures for the operation of the Association's Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) and Modest Means Programs.

Oversees SCCBA Center for Ethics & Professionalism. Maintains SCCBA Code of Professionalism. Reviews & comments on proposed State Bar formal ethics opinions. Maintains Professionalism Forum & Blog. Develops continuing legal education programs for civility and professionalism. Interacts with local bench to ensure and improve civility and professionalism in the courtroom.

 Registered Members

Develops and recommends to the Board of Trustees a three year strategic plan for the organizational, functional and financial goals of the Association. Membership on this Committee is by invitation only.
