This seminar will review the types of network and data security risks faced by companies of all sizes and in different industries, from brick and mortar retail to technology services and the insurance available to protect against these risks. Many businesses face cyberrisks, such as unauthorized access to a company’s network, theft of customer data, and denial of service attacks. Other businesses may incur liability related to services or products they provide to others, whether technological, financial or media content.

We will provide you with an overview of the coverage provided by cyber-risk insurance policies, as well as coverage (and roadblocks to coverage) available under typical business policies. We’ll look at where coverage can be found or excluded in traditional liability policies and the specialized products that have developed over the past 10 – 15 years.  Unlike the terms of a homeowners policy, which are specified by law, insurers have freedom in how cyber policies are drafted. Some have grown out of Commercial General Liability policies or errors and omissions policies, while others other have been fashioned from whole cloth to meet a specific market need.

Underwriting for many of these insurance policies depends on the company having security measures in place. There are many resources available to aid businesses and individuals in assessing and improving the security of their systems and data. We’ll discuss some of these and provide links to access online materials. This seminar will provide you with the information you and your clients need to better understand the different types of cyber insurance policies available and the very real risks of the digital age they insure against.
