Career Advancement, Work-Life-Balance, and the Realities of Being a Woman Lawyer in the 21st Century

An MCLE Round-Table Discussion Sponsored by the SCCBA Women Lawyers' Section and Co-Sponsored by the California Women Lawyers, Pillsbury, Winthrop, Shaw & Pittman, LLP, and The Club Silicon Valley.
Come join us in our 3rd Annual From Having it All to Leaning In Seminar.  This year, we will be launching our program with a panel discussion of the Pao v. Kleiner, Perkins trial and how the testimony of the various witnesses in that trial reflect the real life experiences of women in the workplace today.  We expect that the testimony will present factual scenarios that sound familiar to many women lawyers.

As always, our program will also include a distinguished group of women lawyers, from small to large firms, in-house counsel and women on the bench—in small, round table discussion groups about issues facing women attorneys in the 21st Century:  work life balance, the realities of career progression for women lawyers, rainmaking, confidence, leadership and board membership.
This year, there will be a focus group on the confidence gap, which will in part feature concepts espoused in the book The Confidence Code by New York Times Best Selling authors Katty Kay and Claire Shipman.  There will also be a focus group on Leadership again this year, with a special emphasis on taking on management roles and how to expand female influence by joining and participating in Boards.  Also back will be our focus groups on Marketing and Rainmaking, as well as the ever-popular Work Life Balance group.

We will make every effort to match participants with discussion groups focused on issues relevant to them.  Space is limited this year, so save the date and register early!  When registering, you will need to indicate if you are interested in:

  • Enhancing Self Confidence
  • Leadership--How to Expand your Influence by Joining Boards and Advancing to Management Roles
  • Marketing and Rainmaking Regardless of Firm Size
  • Work-Life Balance

Suggested Readings:

  • The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance—What Women Should Know, by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman
  • The New Rules of the Game:  10 Strategies for Women in the Workplace, by Susan Packard
